STARI GRAD MUSEUM

The Stari Grad Museum holds numerous collections, each containing valuable material about the history of Stari Grad and the island of Hvar. The particularly interesting underwater archaeological collection consists of a late antique shipwreck from the 4th century (amphorae and remains of ship equipment) found in Duboka Bay on the north coast of the island of Hvar, near Vrboska. After the completion of underwater archeological research, the entire cargo of the shipwreck was exhibited in the Museum of Stari Grad. The amphorae are exhibited on the ground floor of the Museum and are arranged to mimic their location on the seabed.
